Choosing Window Treatments For Large Windows

Submitted by: John Schofield

Naturally, there is a great distinction between a window and a door. Yes, they are both openings of the inside world to what is outside; still they are treated quite differently. Doors are not direct openings because they require a quick knock while windows do not really need such a thing. When the sun wants to take a peek into the room, it does not need permission. The rain does not ask permission for it be viewed through the glass, unlike a door. Door require doorbells and the window does not; in fact, a window is able to greet everybody who comes by. To have them ready to welcome anyone, they could be decorated by treatments in different styles and designs.

Compared to coverings, treatments provide some kind of decorative purpose and so give it some aesthetic appeal. When you have a large window to treat, you will realize that it is not so easy to do, because there a quite a number that you need to consider, so that it serves all the functions below:

They provide insulation for heat and cold

They filter the light in, when you do not want to see any natural light

They provide some sort of safeguarding effect, and also give some privacy to the home

Window Treatment Ideas

Fabric window treatment: Fabric is the most common option, especially if you are trying to treat a large window. The most common fabric used are sheers, drapes and curtains. The lighter fabrics are able to retain less moisture and can therefore be used in rooms that expect a lot of moisture content like bathrooms and the kitchen. Fabrics that are heavy should be used for rooms that require great privacy. If you wish to keep the sun out of the room, you need to choose heavy fabrics to do this effectively; at the same time providing some insulation.

Window drapes and curtains: The good thing about drapes and curtains is that they are able to keep out the light out of the room and also keep the room from becoming too chilly in the winter. Most window drapes and curtains come in two panels; with one hanging on either side. If the curtains and drapes come in a single panel, they cover the entire window and can be held to the side by using tie-backs. There are so many fabrics that can be used and if you are dealing with really large windows, you can have custom-made curtains for these.

Window blinds and shades: Blinds and shades can sometimes be made of bamboo, jute or paper prove. They are eco-friendly, and give the room such a cozy look. These are commonly used for Asian homes; vertical blinds for a large window and horizontal ones for those that require less space.
